  WHAT'S HAPPENING

From Mr. Bradford:

___

Parents,

I am in need of some help from a lot of parents.  This past Friday night, we had 35 students who were not able to march at halftime due to their lack of passing off marching music.  Because of this, many students who did get to march struggled with marching next to empty spaces or multiple empty spaces.  As a marcher, this makes it very difficult to perform at a high level, because every member depends on other marchers around them for guide points and for support.  When so many students are out of the show, this puts an enormous strain on the folks that are marching and taking care of their jobs.

I am asking the following from every parent:

Check your students pass off chart posted on the rear band hall wall

  1. Speak with your child about their progress and pass off attempts
  2. Encourage them to work nightly on trouble spots
  3. Encourage them to get help from older members and directors
  4. Communicate with their respective directors about their progress and work
  5. Have them work on memorizing with you each night by playing sections for you
  6. Tell them you can’t wait to see them Friday night and then come out and support them at halftime!

As parents, you’ll never know how much your support and interest mean to your children.  If they know you care and want to see them marching Friday night, they will no doubt give it their all.  As directors, all we ask is that they give their absolute best attempt at learning the music and marching.  Even if they come up short, we always reward those who have given their all!  It is our belief that every child can have success at their own level and as a band, their success will be of the highest levels!

As a band staff, we make ourselves available every day after school and during class.  We will stay here as late as we need to allow your child time to be successful.  All we ask is that an effort is made at home to ensure their attempt is successful.

Due this week is Part 2 of our competition show.  We have been working on this music since August 2nd, so I’m very hopeful of a successful week!  In addition to this new chunk due, all of the old stuff still must be completed if not already done so.  That includes the following:

  • School Song (Alma Mater)
  • Fight Song
  • National Anthem
  • Conquest
  • Pre Show
  • Part 1, chunk 1
  • Part 1, chunk 2
  • Part 1, chunk 3
  • Part 1, with all step out’s
  • Part 2, (this should be the easiest one so far)

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the band staff!
Best wishes and thanks for everyone’s collective support!

Jeff Bradford

From Mr. Lara:

Varsity Revue showcases acts led by students throughout the entire student body as well as teacher sponsored groups like Cheerleaders, Highlandettes, and Wranglers. In addition to its outstanding, it serves as a band fundraiser. The shows are September 30th and October 2ndClick here or contact Glen Stone to see how you can help.

Concert Band Grades are updated in Rportal.

This week was a supply and equipment check . I will hand back students’ objective sheets tomorrow during class. This will have anything that they are missing. Once they show me the missing items, I can sign off the objective and they can receive full credit. Please help me remind them that they must attempt every objective by the due date to get full credit on a retry. Copies of objective sheets are also available on the concert band page (see link in left column).
